TREATING AN ANGEL

Angel’s story is about heart, courage, and an indomitable will to live.

Angel is a fiery, talented and stunningly beautiful horse blessed with a playfulness, sense of humor and “look at me” attitude. In the full bloom of her training she suffered a severe colitis attack that rapidly progressed to endotoxemia. While she recovered from both illnesses, her front feet developed acute and chronic laminitis. Suffice it to say, things got pretty bad for our beloved Angel.

Angel is healthy and thriving today due to her unquenchable spirit, gifted veterinarians and a life-saving experimental therapy procedure known as hyperbaric oxygen treatment. She was treated by the College of Veterinary Medicine at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Their knowledge and skilled use of hyperbaric oxygen treatments proved to be the turning point for Angel’s health. Learn more about her story and the Veterinary Hyperbaric Medicine Society at U.T. here.

As a result of our experience with Angel and the benefits of this experimental therapy, portions of all Pegasus Paper Product purchases will be donated directly to the Veterinary Hyperbaric Medicine Society at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee has already installed and is using the latest generation of HBOT chamber, thanks to generous donations of horse owners across the country.

Acute conditions that benefit from HBOT include trauma, leg wounds, central nervous system damage and surgical trauma (incisions). Chronic conditions benefited by HBOT include large, poorly healing wounds, bone infections, internal abscesses, loss of blood supply and necrosis, and possibly laminitis. The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine offers this sports medicine and rehabilitation program.
